News Round-Up

Hey. Did you miss me? Of course you did.

Our letterer, Jeff “Man Candy” Powell, posted some preview pages of Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time #1. You should pre-order it. It comes out April 15th, an otherwise innocuous date that doesn’t consume your every thought around this time of year. Issues #2 and #3 are also available for pre-order, so get those while you’re at it!

The most popular request since before the first issue of the first volume came out was for posters. Well, we’ve got one. It looks like this:

PhotobucketIt’ll be available for purchase online shortly. Personally, I don’t see how you can live without it. Hell, I’m already doubting your existence and it hasn’t even come out yet.

Let’s see, what else is brewing?

Scott finished his latest Marvel work. If the fact that Scott was doing some work for Marvel is news to you, let me elaborate: he had some work to do for Marvel, and now he’s done and he can get crackin’ on Atomic Robo Vol 3 Issue 3. It’s probably one of my favorite Robo scripts so far because it’s the first time I’ve written anything remotely close to horror. Of course, I get bored if a character isn’t screwing up and Robo has his own slapstick/Vaudeville tendencies, so it’s less Stephen King and more The Three Stooges Meet The Wolfman. But there’s definitely some weird moments in there. I think you’ll dig it.

While Scott’s scrawling out some crude figures using nothing but a pen and his feet, I’ll be finishing up the final issue of Vol 3 immediately followed by hammering out some back up stories. I’ve written exactly one out of five, so yeah, that needs doing but fast. Looking beyond that, I’d say it’s entirely possible we’ll have Vol 4 out later this year. Mind you, I say this without consulting Scott or Red 5 or anybody, so take it with a few grains of salt. But if we maintain our schedule, which we are historically pretty aces at doing, the first issue of Volume 4, Atomic Robo’s Two-Fisted Science Tales, could be released between mid-Sept and mid-Nov. Again, that’s just speculation. Who knows what the hell will happen!

I can't live without that poster… in fact I'm beginning to doubt my very existence. I'm hoping it will be available soon, so I don't disappear in a puff of smoke.

Best interpretation of Lovecraft's person ever. Oh, and hurrah for posters! Now, the action figure…

We are working on something like that. Stay tuned.

Whatever you do, do NOT do anything with Shocker Toys. I am happy to explain all the reasons why not, but in the interest of being "professional", I won't do it here in the middle of your place. Suffice it to say, they are very good reasons. Based on what you said, I'm betting that isn't what you're talking about, but seeing as that whole debacle is my fault, I felt compelled to say it. Also, I must possess that poster. You wouldn't be interested in selling signed ones, would you?

  5. bclevinger   |  Tuesday, 31 March 2009 at 6:06 pm

Signed copies would only be available at conventions, I'm afraid.

If you're hinting at a Robo statue, I'm already there. Now THAT makes me question my existence.

I even doubt my own existence. I'm pretty sure I'm just an algorithm that Brian switches on when he needs a new comic. I am the Karen to his Plankton.

It's very inconvenient when you start to believe in the illusion of your simulated consciousness : You're like a droid, you need regular memory wipes.

Isn't that what booze is for?

Seeing as how you like obscure historical whatsits so much :) Food for creative thought?

On a completely unrelated note, is Zack Finfrock doing another back-up in volume 3?

I thought vol.4 was going to be called Atomic robo and the ghost of station X? what happened? The new title sounds bad. Or maybe it will be more approtate when the thing comes out.

  13. Scott_W   |  Saturday, 04 April 2009 at 1:48 am

Well Derg, if you must know we changed it just to annoy you.

The Station-X story got pushed back. :)

  14. bclevinger   |  Friday, 03 April 2009 at 9:23 pm

He's working on it right now. It'll be in the second issue. He's also doing the art for my new webcomic.

Mike quit your cryin, they kicked you to the curb for selling them up the river to Jesse from ToyBiz and that is that. IS1 has shipped so I guess you and your friends will be eating crow now!

  16. Mike   |  Saturday, 04 April 2009 at 2:45 am

I don't think it sounds BAD, but it does abandon their "Atomic Robo and the…" naming scheme. Kinda reminds me of "Tales of the Fear Agent" though…which isn't a bad thing.

  17. Mike   |  Saturday, 04 April 2009 at 2:52 am

Yeah, because THAT'S how it happened…

Sorry guys, I didn't mean for this to come here too. Shoulda known better though, it's like I said "Beetlejuice" three times or something. I won't bring it up publicly again. (well, here at least…)

  18. Derg   |  Saturday, 04 April 2009 at 1:10 pm

I knew it. Im going to miss the "And the" naming convention, though. :(

Trust me. Two-Fisted Science Tales makes sense for the new Vol 4. Atomic Robo and Ghost of Station X will be Vol 5 or 6. It depends on whether we think we're ready for that one next or Flying She-Devils. Only time will tell!

Awesome, I love his art, and Warbot in Accounting is hilarious. Was it intentional that you claimed it would be a comedy strip without punchlines, and then end the first strip with a physical blow?

  22. Derg   |  Tuesday, 07 April 2009 at 1:02 am

Alright. I believe you. Im sure youre right. *RAPES YOUR SHOE!*

The computer told me to tell you guys know there's a new Word Press version.
