48hrs on a Broken Ass

Sorry for forgetting the blog last week. Summer time is busy time. Well. . . not so much busy. More like, the kid has no school and therefor my work day gets seriously compromised. And Dorinda is not working yet -which is cool and will be nice for another few months while we can afford it, but she also bites into my work day.
This morning for instance, she dragged me out to the beach to go running. Again. Like she has been doing three days a week since we moved here. Which is cool. I need the exercise. I feel great. I get to bitch about the 99% humidity and 90-105 degree temperatures. I love to bitch. Yee-haw! But I don’t sit down at my desk until 10:30 in the morning and that kind of throws me off.
So for the summer I seem to be really settling down to start a page in earnest around 1 o’clock in the afternoon, (’cause after running there is showering, and then eating anything I can get my hands on, and doing email, and complaining about the script to Brian, etc.). Again, this is kinda okay. I wrap up a page in 8-10hrs, so it’s kind of like my day is backwards from your normal person’s. Or I work second shift. Whatever.
So far Staten island has been great. It’s every bit as horrible as I remember it being as a kid -all the hassles of the big city married to all the inconveniences of the suburbs. Yet something I learned not too long ago is proving itself, yet again, to be true -everywhere sucks if you let it, and assholes live in every corner of the globe. You need to go out and find the stuff wort doing, and the things worth seeing. We’ve been putting a major effort into doing just that -putting a big effort into exploring Staten Island and it’s paying off in huge dividends. There’s a surprising amount of interesting history and culture hidden away here in the Forgotten Borough.
It’s kind of weird living in a place where I’m 20 minutes from a really nice beach, I’m 35 minutes from the Village, and I can go from beautiful parks to downtown Manhattan in the course of a single day.
I’m glad we’re here.
Work on the studio has slowed to a crawl. Between the heat and just needing to work I haven’t had the heart to do much with the place. But most of the work is finished, so I’m okay with putting the final touches off until the Widget is back in school and the weather is cooler.
All in all though, things are going well.
And I really need to get to work!

I get to bitch about the 99% humidity and 90-105 degree temperatures.
And then I get the smug satisfaction of pointing out that it was only 70% humidity and 80 degrees again and that you're a big fat baby.
Awesome back-up on Nuklear Power guys. Poignant, and I suspect with more truth than one would first suspect.
That reminds me, I should make a post here announcing the new online comics so everyone can see 'em. We've got one more to go first though!
Ye gods, that's a dreadful sentence. Apologies, everyone.
Great interview on Newsarama.
