She-Devils Issue #5 — GET IT! (on 12/12)

The fifth and concluding issue of Atomic Robo and the Flying She-Devils of the Pacific is out today. Here’s a very generous and spoiler-free review, another generous but spoiler-y review, and a five page preview, eh wot!

Grab it at your local shop, or order it online, or download it to your fancy Android/iOS thingies.

We’ve had a hell of a ride with the She-Devils. The best thing about Atomic Robo is that it allows us to jump straight to the most fun stories we have in mind at any time. But the worst thing about Atomic Robo is that means putting your new favorite toys away as soon as you’re used to having them around all the time.

One of the best things about this volume in particular, though, is that it proves how incredibly easy it is not to give the Hawkeye Initiative ammunition.

But that’s not all!

You can also get the Real Science Adventures Vol 1 trade paperback featuring a dozen talented artists tackling 4, 8, and 24 page stories from all over the Atomic Robo timeline. Also an introduction by some jerk. Git it locally, order it online, or grab it for your super future touch screen doohickey.

I tried picking the issue up on Comixology. What happened?

  • Scott!

I believe it was released a week early accidentally. Annoying, since its ready to go, but we have to wait on the print version or the Luddites get all butthurt.

I think I’ll have to re-read the trade to judge the vol. in full (Please don’t read that as any sort of negative statement) but I’m interested, will we get any sort of future story resolving the Financial status of Tesladyne between Vol. 7 and Vol. 3 issue 3?

Uhh Scott…I went to get my comics today, some places must’ve got it already.

Really nice series, a bit slow in the buildup unlike some of the past volumes, but the artwork has been a new level of awesome.

  • Scott!

    Thanks.

I don’t *think* any shops got copies yet. I think it was just Comixology. But since I never leave my house I don’t really know. :P

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

Some shops definitely got them. You’d know that if you checked your email more than once a week OH SNAP SON CALL 911 CAUSE YOU GOT BURNED

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

Sort of yes and sort of no?

Vol 7 is why Tesladyne has so little cash a few years later in Vol 3.3, so there’s not much to resolve between them.

How they get out of that at some point after 3.3 isn’t technically the focus of any planned volume, but Tesladyne’s finances get fixed as a result of one of Robo’s adventures in the ’60s. That could be the storyline for anything from Vol 11 onward depending on when we get around to it.

  • Scott!

I do check my email. If it says “From: Brian Clevinger” I have a filter that just deletes it.

PS: I never check my email. I hate it.

I say let their Butts hurt all they like. It might just motivate them not to be terrible at their jobs. take a stand against crap ass disturbing systems ! VIA LA ROBOLATION!

  • kaijumaster

    Thanks!

  • kaijumaster

And I see Real Science adventures is listed for this week too. Excellent.

  • Sethintheflesh

Oh boy! Without having picked up a single issue of Vol. 7 so far, I still have a hunch that it’s the best one yet. And I’ll have RSA to tide me over until the Trade comes out. Thanks gentlemen!

  • Joe

Is there a reason I can’t pre order the trade (or the real science trade) on Amazon?

  • Scott!

Not that I am aware of. Maybe its just a digital paperwork issue? Red5 Comics would be the one to ask.

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

Amazon did a massive wave of canceled orders on RSA the other week. They appear to claim it’s out of print. I have no idea why. We have thousands of these things ready to sell.

  • Patrick

I might be mistaken, I thought I saw this on sale last week on Comixology. I went to check today to purcahse it and it’s no longer there. What time does the issue go up on Comixology? Thanks guys!

  • Kaijumaster

That’s great to hear, I hope to pick it up at ‘A Comic shop’ next Friday when I’m down there.

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

It was accidentally put on sale last week. It’s on sale for real right now. The link may have changed, so if you’re using an old URL it won’t come up. Use any of the ComiXology links on this blog post or the website in general.

“One of the best things about this volume in particular, though, is that it proves how incredibly easy it is not to give the Hawkeye Initiative ammunition.”

And those panels that, all too often, would have been the big offenders, are even more awesome because of that. Especially the pages with Ronnie and Liz. Fantastic issue, great volume.

  • Patrick

Yeah it turns out I wasn’t being patient enough, as always! Thanks for the response, as always the issue was fantastic! Keep up the great work Scott and Brian!

  • Joe

Was able to buy RSA finally…still not She Devils

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

Yeah, we’re still putting the finishing touches on the Vol 7 TPB.
