What happened?!

The short version: maintaining the blog from Robo’s perspective had become too limiting as late. Since the whole idea of giving him a blog was to loosen up the ol’ creative gears, I was at something of an impasse.

And, baby, we don’t do impasse ’round here.

So, this is me, Brian Clevinger, writer and co-creator of ATOMIC ROBO. I’ll be talking about the ins and outs of writing and publishing a comic book, comics and the industry in general, weird technology, weirder history, story ideas, and whatever else strikes my fancy. You’ll also get all kinds of juicy behind-the-scenes goodies for ATOMIC ROBO. Concept art, gossip about how Scott’s a jerk for changing panel 4 on page 10, all that stuff. Think of the comic as a DVD and this site as its bonus features. You can get more of that kind of sweet action over at Scott Wegener’s site. For the uninitiated, he’s Robo’s artist and co-creator.

Ultimately I’d like to run a wiki here to keep track of Robo’s adventures. Ideally we could link that up with a somewhat-interactive timeline. History is such an integral part of the Robo experience, we should really try to do something with that.

Just to get us started (gossip-wise, that is), I’ll say that all signs currently point to us doing a second mini-series. It will run 4 – 6 issues depending entirely on how long it takes us to tell the story. This mini-series, Volume 2 if you will, will be a continuous story chronicling one of Robo’s missions for the Allies in the European Theater of WWII. He’ll have to fight Nazi monstrosities (some of them mechanical), the deadliest man in the world, and an old foe.

The sixth and final issue of the current mini-series should be out in April. So Volume 2 will be in stores some time after that. Scott and I really enjoyed the peace of mind that came with having the majority of the work finished before Issue #1 ever went to print — and we know you guys appreciate knowing that a book will hit the shelves on time every month — so I wouldn’t expect to see the next series until June or July ‘08 at the earliest.

I’d like to thank everyone who stumbled onto this blog from way back in ‘06 and stuck with it through the reboots. I’m happy to have had you along for the beta portion of Robo’s life. Hopefully, you’ll see fit to join him for the real thing when ATOMIC ROBO #1 hits the shelves next Wednesday. You’ve only seen a slice of his adventures, and we’ve got a a whole century to cover.

And, hey, if you miss Robo too much, you can still bug him at MySpace and LiveJournal.

  • Awesome and thanks for rekindling my interest
    in comic books.
  • We'll find out one day in print!
  • Kind of sad we didn't get to see how robo got out of that predicament with the evil robo.
  • I'm afraid not. They're the basis for the published stories, but there are differences between the old versions and what we'll see in the comics. I chose to remove the old versions to avoid any confusion about which would be the "official" version and to avoid any weird contradictions.

Any chance of getting the old blogs?
