FCBD, the aftermath

Brian!

First of all, thanks to everyone who came out. It was great talking with you folks. I was surprised to see so many people who weren’t yet into comics but were excited to get into them. But, hey, Free Comic Book Day is all about suckering new readers into the hobby, so way to fall for our trap, you fools!

Second, let me just say that Chuck Dixon is my new hero. He’s a pro’s pro.

Third, apparently the Robo & Neozoic FCBD issue was one of the fast movers at most stores and a lot of people missed out on picking up a copy. Do not despair, Team Robo looks out for the reader! We guarantee that story will be available at no additional cost to you and in a format that will make it available to our international friends as well. It might take until February or March ’09, but it’ll be there.

  • The Broox

I got the second to last copy at my LCS, it and the Hellboy issue were the only two that I really wanted to get.

Ugh, I need to go write my own FCBD report . . later. Or something.

The HellBoy FCBD book was great, though it sucked not to see any more Mignola art.

And fear not, I have a huge stack of Atomic Robo FCBD books. Come find us at a show and it can be yours. (Not quite for free though -I had to buy these things!)

Yeah, but the new Mignola cover and the awesome Futurama/BPRD mashup were nice touches!

Any day that you can get new Atomic Robo and Hellboy books (for FREE, no less!) is a *damned* good day.

My LCS owner said they got a much better turnout this year.

What do the Russian words say on the FCBD cover?

Probably some kind of radiation warning.

Hope you guys don’t mind me popping in for a second…

I have 2 shops across the street from each other up here in my neck of the woods (QC, Canada), and one was giving out bags with every free publication he received (I didn’t count, but it was probablly about 30 comics), including the Atomic Robo one, which was pretty sweet.

I have this sort of guilty, extremely poorly-kept secret that I go to both stores, usually one right after the other… I actually ordered the miniseries issues from the other fellow (who wasn’t bagging up 30 comics for every customer), who’d also kept a copy of the free Robo issue for me… way to make me feel like a heel, local comic shop owner… there’s something odd to buying something at one store, than crossing the street to a direct competitor and buying from them too… but they both have their strong points, and they’re both good guys, so I try to shop from both.

I was sorta late in the game, and ended up ordering back issues of the miniseries when #6 was just coming out. Having read them all, I think the free one was my favorite, funnily enough.

Very good stuff, guys. Good clean fun, and I’m looking forward to the next one.

Ugh, that was long. All apologies, I was actually just going to say I liked the comic, and that I was apparently lucky enough to have gotten 2 copies of the free issue.
