Just So’s You Know

Brian!

I’ll probably finish writing the last issue of Atomic Robo and the Dogs of War by next Friday.

Speaking of which, go buy the first issue tomorrow!

Ahem.

Anyway! We go to work on FCBD ’09 next to get it out of the way. It’s not due until February, I think, but tackling it right after Vol 2 means we won’t have to switch gears mid-series to get it done in the middle of cranking out Vol 3. And with FCBD out of the way, we’ll tackle Volume 3, a.k.a. Atomic Robo and the Shadow Beyond Time, free of distractions.

Vol 3 will feature one of my favorite Robo adventures of all time. I cannot wait to see what Scott brings to it. But perhaps even more so than that, I’m looking forward to a complete mini-series that doesn’t involve a single briefing or guard banter scene.

Oh, who the hell am I kidding? I can’t realistically promise both of those. Okay, maybe just no guard banter? I can do that. One day at a time, Brian. One day at a time.

Is volume 3 going to be the one to introduce Dr. Dinosaur?

    Nope. Good guess though.

I did go out and buy vol.2 #1 wednesday. It’s still the same good addictive stuff as vol.1. And I did find some funny moments even though you said it wasn’t the focus at all.

I have one minor negative comment though, which might be more suited to Red5. I really liked the cover and paper quality of vol.1 better. i wouldn’t have minded paying 50 cents more or something along that to keep that same quality if it was a price problem.

As I said, it didn’t change my appreciation of the comic in any way though. Keep up the good job!

Oh yeah, between all the conventions and being out of town this week I totally forgot to warn everyone about the paper quality.

Basically, since gas is twice what it was this time last year, we had to make a choice: charge extra for the super quality paper, or stay at the same price for merely good quality paper. In the end, we decided we’d rather hear people complain about the paper than the price.

i picked it up yesterday, and i thought it was pretty good. it’s a ground-laying issue, but there’s nothing wrong with that. i expect it’ll be up to the standard set with the first, and i’m looking forward to it.

Yup, this issue was all about setting the stage. Next issue is pretty much 20 pages of fight scenes between Robo and Laufpanzers. Should be a good time.

Hey, any idea when the Volume 2 compilation will come out? A vague guess, or anything?

The last issue hits in mid-December, so the trade will come out somewhere in the first quarter of ’09.

Keep up the great work. Atomic Robo easily is one of my favorite comics. It the right mix of action, comedy and sci-fi. I love it.

Is there a little more background on Robo’s team?

    I got 2 comments:
I know you fully support Heavy Ink and they fully support Atomic Robo, but next time you do one of those exclusive cover deal, I would like if you could choose more stores to do it. Paypal is quite possibly one of the most popular system to pay online and Heavy Ink doesn’t support it, and a lot of us who knew about the exclusive cover deal for weeks will unfortunately end up fighting with the hordes of collectors on eBay while we could have gotten the exclusive cover cheaply just by ordering it online had Heavy Ink supported Paypal.

Also, will the FCBD 08 Atomic Robo story find its way in the second Atomic Robo trade paperback?

We can’t control who wants exclusive covers and who doesn’t, nor can we control how they accept payment. Sorry.

And, yes, it absolutely will be in the second trade.
