Wherein we talk like morons
Atomic Robo and the Shadow From Beyond Time #5 is now available for pre-order. You should totally check that shit out.
In the meantime, we’ve got a new (ongoing?) feature here at robo.com. We’ve done a couple commentaries on individual issues of Atomic Robo through the magic of instant messaging systems. Today we bring you our first foray into audio commentary. We decided to start with a look at the mysterious origins of Atomic Robo as a concept.
Enjoy!

Here’s some supplemental material. Specifically, here’s some of the original character designs for what would become Atomic Robo. Many (all?) of these can be found in the bonus material for Volume 1: Atomic Robo and the Fightin’ Scientists of Tesladyne
This is where Scott first planted the seeds that Robo needed to ditch the built-in weaponry. His case: “He looks cooler holding a gun.” Can’t argue with the facts!
I liked the #4 and #5 head, but Scott went with #6 for the final design. The jerk!
I loved the cables-as-musculature in the neck, but we both figured that’d be way too much of a pain in the ass for Scott to draw every single time.
Atomic Robo ver 1.0. We very nearly went with this version, but Scott busted out with the versions linked above after taking a month-long break to draw Killer of Demons #1
