It sure took a long time, but here at last for your audio-receptor delight, in full stereophonic dualfluxaphon technicolor is Episode 2 of the Atomic Podcast.

This was pretty unstructured, and it’s just me and Jeff Powell for the most part. Brian was off at the movies seeing UP! so we forgive him. Time permitting we will talk with Ronda this week and get it posted right after HEROES CON.
Just like our first attempt at podcasting, recording episode 2 was something of a nightmare. In an attempt to correct the stereo issues that we had with Episode 1, I recorded in mono this time, which turned out to be a HUGE mistake.
It seems that the higher quality your microphone the quieter you sound on a recording. So Jeff and Ronda, the other half of Team Robo, were loud and clear as they screamed into their computers, hoping that their mouths were somewhere within the pick-up range of the unseen microphones buried in the guts of their machines. Brian was the only one who sounded normal, but he speaks so infrequently unless you force him to it was easy to forget he was there. (Note to Self; invent list of Brian prompts). I sounded the worst out of the four of us. Or at least I would have, if I’d had any sound at all. For some reason, even thought I am the one recording the conversation, and I’ve got the fancy noise canceling headset, I come in the weakest.
And because I recorded in mono, there was nothing I could do to separate and fix my voice track. So several hours of recorded where eventually flushed down the recycling bin drain.
However, last week I found myself with a free hour and a letterer who didn’t seem to be too busy. So I Skyped The Powell, we talked, and I did minimal editing this time because many people told me that they preferred a more natural conversational tone to a heavily edited one. I suspect that after listening to this they will change their minds.
Also, it’s still in stereo. I tried to make it mono, but once I’d run it through one program to equalize the sound levels the editor would no longer acknowledge that I even had a stereo recording, much less do anything to help me make it mono. So from now on the Atomic Podcast is officially in stereo and anyone who doesn’t like it can A.) kiss my ass, and B.) go listen to some other podcast where the people involved did not put the least technically adept member of the team in charge of everything. (So what if it was his idea?)
