It sure took a long time, but here at last for your audio-receptor delight, in full stereophonic dualfluxaphon technicolor is Episode 2 of the Atomic Podcast.

This was pretty unstructured, and it’s just me and Jeff Powell for the most part. Brian was off at the movies seeing UP! so we forgive him. Time permitting we will talk with Ronda this week and get it posted right after HEROES CON.

Just like our first attempt at podcasting, recording episode 2 was something of a nightmare. In an attempt to correct the stereo issues that we had with Episode 1, I recorded in mono this time, which turned out to be a HUGE mistake.

It seems that the higher quality your microphone the quieter you sound on a recording. So Jeff and Ronda, the other half of Team Robo, were loud and clear as they screamed into their computers, hoping that their mouths were somewhere within the pick-up range of the unseen microphones buried in the guts of their machines. Brian was the only one who sounded normal, but he speaks so infrequently unless you force him to it was easy to forget he was there. (Note to Self; invent list of Brian prompts). I sounded the worst out of the four of us. Or at least I would have, if I’d had any sound at all. For some reason, even thought I am the one recording the conversation, and I’ve got the fancy noise canceling headset, I come in the weakest.

And because I recorded in mono, there was nothing I could do to separate and fix my voice track. So several hours of recorded where eventually flushed down the recycling bin drain.

However, last week I found myself with a free hour and a letterer who didn’t seem to be too busy. So I Skyped The Powell, we talked, and I did minimal editing this time because many people told me that they preferred a more natural conversational tone to a heavily edited one. I suspect that after listening to this they will change their minds.

Also, it’s still in stereo. I tried to make it mono, but once I’d run it through one program to equalize the sound levels the editor would no longer acknowledge that I even had a stereo recording, much less do anything to help me make it mono. So from now on the Atomic Podcast is officially in stereo and anyone who doesn’t like it can A.) kiss my ass, and B.) go listen to some other podcast where the people involved did not put the least technically adept member of the team in charge of everything. (So what if it was his idea?)

  • Scott!
John: Nope. Just because both guards are in their underpants in 2.3 doesn't mean anyone went missing. And all 7 dudes are still there on pg15 -just one is off camera. But he doesn't vanish from the scene.

There is one German who I just decided got throw off camera so hard that I never had to draw him again.

Basically he screwed up a panel I was laying out so I just . . .didn't draw him.
  • We file those under WHO CARES?
  • John I.G. the second
I just realised after trying to find the missing german, that in volume 2 issue 3, robo throws two soldiers off the train without their clothing on, yet he only needs one suit.
Page 14 to 15 of the same issue, Atomic Robo is surrounded by 7 dudes on page 14, then only 6 on page 15, thus the missing german...I think. Now when am I getting my fake reward?

Well, I hate to say it, but the machines also cause me problems; on account of the gypsy curse placed on the Bavarian part of our family before the dawn of time. At least your in a non-technologies related industry.

There is a term that I feel I should share with you. Its called "M.U.E.F" pronounced "moof". It stands for Massive Unexplained Equipment Failure. It can be used to describe anything that your machine/tool is doing that you don't want it to, for reasons that you have no clue about, which can include, but are not limited to, just not working, dumping digital info that you really wanted to keep, or smoking and exploding.

Your story about shingles has nauseated and frightened me, but I liked the stereo effect. I had the 'cast on my big stereo and it was pretty funny to sit in the middle of two complete jackasses killing time while pretending to do something that was "professionally" oriented ;) just kidding! It'll be funny when you have like four people on and you're on the left channel and everyone else will be on the right side. It was entertaining though :)
  • Scott!
Yeah I hate the stereo thing. Computers seem to hate me more than most people though, so I'm still amazed I figured out how to hit the "record" button, never mind anything else.

Just listened to your podcast. Dang that was long. It was cool to listen in on some of the comic book process. I'm undecided if I liked listening to it in stereo. It was kind of weird hearing Scott in one ear and Jeff in the other ear. It's like I'm sitting in between the two of you at a movie theatre before the movie starts and you're talking to each other. Heh. Very cool though.

I'm glad to hear you mentioned our D&D game night! Woot! Yeah, it was very difficult to get into the 4th ed game, which is sad, because I felt like I didn't give it enough polish because I disliked the system. I'm looking forward to being a player and seeing if it gets any better. There's always Pathfinder in a month and half.
  • Oh, good call. Consider No Resurrections to be part of the deal.
  • Avi
I really like "The Promise." Please add something: no resurrections. I picked up Captain America for the first time earlier this year, and already they're bringing him back? Dammit.
  • I'm happy I don't sound like a total jackass, only a partial one. Also, here's the url I failed to mention for Jef UK's band.
