Atomic Podcast Episode 4

Brian!

It’s that time again, folks. Scott and I recorded ourselves hemming, hawing, and hashing out story ideas for our post-Vol 3/pre-Vol 4 internet exclusive Atomic Robo short story.

Yes, this is your window into the fascinating processes that bring the world of Atomic Robo to light.

So, yeah, it’s mostly a lot of bullshitting and laughing at each other. Enjoy!

Oh, and as you can tell from the recording, we did this from the inside of a cave. I told you back in Episode 3, Team Robo is a pro-cave team.

Off topic, based on the teaser video Emerson Wild looks exactly the same as the Dreseden Files by Jim Butcher, except sci-fi instead of fantasy/mystery. It’s as if someone asked me what the most awesome possible combinations of genre elements was, and you all decided to make a story out of my answers.

When Atomic Robo goes to his happy place he should live out an episode of Dirk Daring saving Penelope and beating Dr. Nefario. They can all be played by previous robo characters, like the sparrow and Dr. Dinosaur. It would serve fans to see the characters as well as make it somewhat non-canonical so you wouldn’t have to change the characters afterwards.

Also all the original back-up stories were awesome, Edison/Rasputin, The Rocketeer, The trip inside robo’s brain, the vampire dimension, the Crab robot and the giant korean robot (which you guys tend to forget about). I think you just used up a lot of ideas in the first volume for the back-up stories.

Just finished Issue No. 3 of Vol. 3 and I just have to say I think this might be your best issue ever.

Really looking forward to No. 4.

Thanks! I think #4 is my favorite of this series, but it’s got Sagan in it, so I’m biased.

Well, Sagan makes everything better. Still, I loved the Sputnik setup sequence at the beginning of the issue. Gives us a good look at late 50′s Robo. The sketches at the back were nifty.

Also, I finally managed to get the Dogs of War trade. I quite like the little extra of Teslas letter ‘In Defense of the Atomic Robot’. It does a very nice job of explaining how the genius involved in Robos design didn’t revolutionize the world in ways we couldn’t imagine (And for the right reasons too, I think :)

3.3 is also my favorite single Robo story to date also. It’s my favorite of Vol.3, which is saying a LOT since Carl is in 3.4, and I love Sagan almost as much as Brian.
