(Our new SCIENCE shirt . . .without the SCIENCE text.)

It’s very slightly possible that I am pushing myself a bit too hard. Last Thursday after kicking my own ass to get the first issue of Robo Vol.4 finished and finally recovering from the nasty cold I got after our trip to Seattle I went to Xmortis at T.T. The Bear’s. In retrospect, going out dancing until 3:30 in the morning, the night before a convention, was kind of stupid. But there was leather, and latex, and corsets, and slutty goth-nurses, and things popping out of corsets -so can you really blame me. Plus, I really love dancing.

But the predictable result is that I am now sitting here slumped in front of my computer with a clogged ear and a sore throat wondering how the hell I am supposed to survive my flight to Italy tomorrow. I can’t even take comfort in the knowledge that I might make Brian miserably sick also because I think this funk is entirely fatigue driven. Then again, Brian is rather ghoulish and the power of persuasion is, um . . . powerful. So I’ll have him sick and drippy before we cross over the Prime Meridian.

The Boston ComiCon was good like it always is. As usual I had a great seat thanks entirely to the efforts of my art rep Bob Shaw. It seems like every time I go the con tries to hose me, and Bob makes sure that doesn’t happen. So thanks Bob! You should visit Bob (and my very for sale art at ComicArtHouse.com). For everyone who was sad that didn’t have anything larger than XL shirts, or was just plain sold out of our amazing new SCIENCE shirts, go visit Mike at the Secret Bunker. He will hook you up. Just keep in mind that he’s a friend who does this as a favor in his free time. Don’t be a dick and hassle him if your shirt takes a week to arrive. Just a note: the link to shirts on robo.com goes to some other site, which is totally respectable and awesome. But which is not my friend Mike.

I crashed with the amazing Liz & Benn Robbins for the weekend. (They took those great Space Girl photos.) Always a good time with those two. I hate living so far away from them. As always it was great seeing Chris “Xtine”, Iian, Other Liz, Jen, Nate’s Brother (was it Peter?), Frankie B., Officer Mulkahy, Doctor Vega, Brian & Sarah & their swell new house, my various cos-playing peeps, and everyone else that I may have appeared pleased to see but forgot to mention in this list.

So tomorrow I rendezvous with the Clev in New York and then we are whisked away to Milan for a week of Super Geekery Italian style. Some time ago Atomic Robo was translated by our overseas publisher, Renoir Comics. I’m a little (by which I mean A LOT) irritated that I have to drive BACK to Boston so I can fly to JFK when there is a perfectly awesome airport 30 minutes from my house in NH that I know had multiple airlines that go to JFK.  But one does not look free airfare in the mouth, and that is the last you will hear my complain about it. I’m sure I won’t fall asleep at the wheel and die in a fiery car wreck next Tuesday while slogging through Boston traffic on the 90 minute ride back to my house.

Lucca Con should be quite the spectacle. Imagine SDCC. 160k+ people, stinking and glorious. Now remove that convention center, the dozens of hotels, and hundreds of resaturates and replace them with the charming and tiny medieval town of Lucca, located in beautiful Tuscany. Should be pretty fucked up. By which I mean potentially amazing. SDCC 2008 was an experience tainted by my own pathetic sour grapes and the fact that I didn’t want to be there in the first place. So I’m pretty sure  this will be a better experience. Our man in Italy, Michele, has been sending us constant updates on out itinery, the weather (I will be sweating while Brian is freezing to death), and all sorts of stuff.

I’ve got to go do laundry, pack, re-pack my con-bag, and get some sleep so I can feel better in the morning. There won’t be a blog next Monday, so we’ll see ya when we see ya.

  • I found the 3rd issue of the 3rd series. That means I don't have to wait any longer before I can read "Atomic Robo and the Shadow from Beyond time". Yay!
  • Hey thanks for signing my stuff.

Here's some links, you should see what Benn wrote on my Tick

  • Mike
    I'm jealous!

Unless the guys come out to one of the Chicago shows or maybe Mid-Ohio-Con, I doubt I'll ever get to have anything signed by them...and it doesn't sound like they're planning such a trip any time soon.

(I'm also jealous of the Geoff Darrow sketch/sig...I actually got one of those once, but I believe it ended up with an unscrupulous "toy maker" former associate of mine that I won't mention by name only because if I do he will then appear. And I'm not being paranoid because it's actually happened here before.)
  • Hey Scott, it was blast reconnecting with you bro.
Tuscany is absolutely beautiful and I know you guys won't have
the time to really take it in. But definitely absorb what you can and
remember that there's all ways next time.
Me and Crystal will put out "energy" for your health and both of
    your safe travel.
    Peace
  • That's what I get for typing during a meeting. I meant to say as if I didn't already HAVE ENOUGH Robo-related clothing to buy!
  • Josh_B
I hope you guys have a great time in Italy and get to see something aside from a bunch of sweaty European comic fans while you're there.
  • A Tesla t-shirt? I want!

    As for the Burt spread...
I'm flashing back to the late Sixties.

As for the Screaming Sergeant, did you ever notice that he also appeared in "Space: Above and Beyond". His last warning to the recruits was that they'd die once they went Out There.
  • Fantastic Tesla shirt...as if I didn't already Robo-related clothing to buy!
  • vynsane
i accidentally the entire robo-related clothing?
  • yayap91
Sounds like you have what I have. And yeah, I have a feeling its fatigue related too.

Usually your random splendor is awesome, but pic #5 brought it down to "funny but wrong" level.

    Get well soon!
