Volume 9, Issue 1 – PRE-ORDER IT

Volume 9, Issue 1 – PRE-ORDER IT

Just a quick note on the fate of the Volume 8 trade paperback to start. There’s been a schedule snafu with its release date. Basically this is the last ripple/echo/aggravation from way back when the third issue of that series was delayed. Any reports you see about it being unavailable or out of print or cancelled are wrong. If you already ordered it, say, through Amazon, you may have been told your order was cancelled. It’s not. It’s comin’ at ya and we’ll let you know when as soon as Diamond tells us!

Now for the good news!

We’ve had tons of time to work on Volume 9 due to the delays on the releases of the back half of Volume 8. Scott will be done with at least the first three issues of Volume 9 by the time the first one comes out. Barring any major disasters that means all of Volume 9 will be on time.

By the way. That first issue? It comes out May 21st. Maybe ask your local shop to hold a copy for ya. They have a pullbox for that sort of thing. It’s neat. BTW the Diamond Code for that issue is MAR141342 if you want to make their job a little easier.

Or if you don’t have a shop that’s so local, then give Midtown Comics online store a shot. I’m gonna link to the issue in a second, but first I want to warn you that everything about Volume 9 is an enormous spoiler for Volume 8. Here’s the link: you’ve been warned.

“But Brian,” you might say. “Doesn’t it screw up the whole thing where you guys says you can read Robo in any order if you make these two so closely linked?”

Naw. If you read Volume 9 before Volume 8, you’ll get the same payoff but in a different direction.

The only problem I see is that some people run the risk of getting spoiled if they like to keep an eye on Robo and get the books as they come out but not necessarily when they come out. This is a temporary problem.

Scott and I differ about how much effort we should make to protect the delicate sensibilities of these rare and beautiful creatures. The official policy ’round these parts is: you’ve got until the Volume 8 TPB or the first issue of Volume 9 comes out, whichever is first.

I was strictly a TPB collector up until you finally hooked me with Savage Sword. Hopefully my local comic store actually manages to get the volume 9 issues in on time. Unfortunately I live in a town of heathens who do not appreciate Robo, and so I had to wait an extra 2 weeks for both issues 4 and 5 after my lone pulled copy fell off the store’s radar. Either way, I can’t wait for May!

Also I had sent a message to the Kickstarter a couple weeks ago about making a slight Savage Sword inspired revision to my Scott sketch request but never got a response. How are those going?

  • Scott!

You did?? Crap. The sketches are all done. Which one was your?

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

He wanted the Bernard, but then a couple weeks after you’d done them all he got 8.5 and requested Bernard Being Amazing Hollow Earth Style (paraphrasing).

  • Random Robo Fan

I was the one who requested the picture of “Bernard doing badass science stuff.” Although after reading the rest of Savage Sword, I sent a message on Feb. 8th asking if I could change it to a “What-If sketch depicting Bernard living happily ever after with his rockloid partner.”

Since I knew that might not completely fit the request requirements and I didn’t know how many of them were done at that point, I didn’t necessarily expect the change. I’m still cool with my original request.

Your paraphasing is much better than my original. :)

  • Scott!

Oh that one! My only Bernard! The sketches have been sealed so they won’t smudge -but also so they don’t really erase without destroying them.

However, since Bernard is one of my favorite characters, and you were the only one to request him, I went a little beyond what I would normally do on that one. Tentacles, charred zorth-dimensional flesh, lighting guns, and Bernard with a “WTF did I just do!?!” look on his face.

I think you will like it. ;)

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

It is quite possibly the best sketch of the Kickstarter.

  • Kaijumaster.

Out of Curiosity, how many other A.L.A.N. sketches were requested?

  • Random Robo Fan

    This totally makes my day!!!

  • Scott!

    Just the one! :)

Sorry to say I missed out on the Kickstarter…..is the tesladyne book going to see a proper release or is it only for kick starters?

  • http://www.nuklearpower.com Brian!

We’re making extra ones so there will be a limited supply to sell at conventions and online. Stay tuned.

Amazon’s now showing a publishing date of 6/25 for the volume 8 trade. :(

  • Scott!

And then it will come out next week (no it will not) and Amazon will be all like, “YOLO” and shrug.

You guys need to stop worrying so much about what Amazon says. Amazon is the tail end of a fairly long printing and distribution chain. Half the time I think they just make up dates so they can send you those happy little emails to the effect of, “great news, we will be shipping your book early!”

“Early” being relative only to their original erroneous date, and boy doesn’t it make them look like your new best friend for getting you the book ahead of schedule! ;)

We had to print FCBD 2014 before we could print Vol.8. I am pretty sure FCBD is finished now. While Brian and I are not really in the loop about printing schedules (That’s all Red5′s responsibility) the last email I can remember from them said vol.8 was next in the queue.

  • Fogger1138

I’m only worried about it insofar as it gives me an estimated time period for when I can read this one. :)

  • Scott!

Yeah, I dig it. It is frustrating.

The best general rule of thumb is to assume it will drop 3-4 months after the last issues comes out.

  • Fogger1138

    Cool, thanks.
