Notes To Self – Volume Titles

This post is entirely for my own benefit as my memory is not cut out to juggle all that Atomic Robo has done, is doing, will be doing, and will have already done. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, then at least a couple of these will sound familiar. And if you’re new, just think of them as teasers.

Atomic Robo and Other Strangeness – this is Volume 4. I’m working on the first issue at the moment!

Atomic Robo and the Ghost of Station X – this will probably be the fifth volume as it takes place “now” and I’d rather it be a current “now” than a later one.

Atomic Robo in Diamonds Are For Never – this is a ’70s science heist adventure. Working title.

Atomic Robo and The Flying She-Devils of the Pacific – Post-WWII air-piracy with a load of weird Jet Age tech. It’ll probably be the sixth volume.

Atomic Robo Under an Iron Sky – The return of an old foe with a new weapon and an old friend who is a new friend and also a foe (whew). Working title.

See, it's little things like the news that I will be following Atomic Robo's adventure for several years that makes my day. And it's true, what they say about wanting what you don't have: as much as I love everything Robo, I think I'm most excited for the ones that will come out later. Maybe that's just because there's no description for Ghost of Station X, though (I assume Other Strangeness is a collection of one-shot issues?).

Speaking of which, is Other Strangeness the new title for Atomic Robo's Two-Fisted Science Tales?

I think about how long it will take for all of these volumes to see the light of day and cry, but am also ever thankful that Robo has developed enough of a readership for you and Scott to continue producing them.

Yes. It's only four issues, each is a stand alone, but they're all linked by taking place within the same (very busy) week.

And, yes, it's just Two-Fisted Science Tales with a different title.

I suggested that as well a few months ago. =D

You ought to throw Two-Fisted Science Tales up on the list, even though we don't have a story to go with it yet. It's a great titles and it would suck to forget it.

    Oh dear, that's horribly cryptic.

Anyhoo, having just listened to the podcast, I really enjoyed it. Lots of great insight.

There are enough readers of Atomic Robo to keep it going. The problem is that Scott and I are in our thirties and making about as much money doing Atomic Robo comics as a 16 year old kid down at Burger King. We can survive, assuming nothing ever goes wrong, and that's just not a sustainable model.

But we're still gaining readers and garnering interest from non-comics media, so it's a model that will likely change in the near future.

Oh, I remember back when the flying she-devils was going to be volume 4.
I see you have decided to drop the pulpy 'and the' convention, I think most of the titles work, except the diamonds one.

So far you've had what 3 volumes in 2 years, if you keep that up, then in another 4 years you should have all this done, plus another volume.

I laughed at that last comment.

Oh, we're not dropping it. We're just not slavishly sticking with it.

I kinda like the "and the" titles….they remind of the Tom Swift series.

Well, It will be nice to see some not-totally-connected stories to see how far Brian's crazy style can go. Im looking forward to the "and other strangeness" story, which I guess will be coming out on TPB next year. (Which sucks, since I only by trades because Im a bastard)

Im soooooo intrigued by "Ghost of Station X". You've been mentioning it for a while and can't wait to see what the hell happens. I get tired of James Bond paroadying, but im sure that "Diamonds are For-Never" will be good.

Also, It sucks to see "Flying She-Devils" pushed so far, but ill get it when it comes out.

That last one is the most badass story title ever.

    AND NOW….. WILD-MASS GUESSING!

Oh no, Diamonds Are For Never isn't a Bond parody at all, but the title does lend that interpretation. We still may change it, but I can't think of anything else that sounds as good!
